Bafang error 04: Throttle fault

Stop riding. Do not ride with the motor on until the throttle is checked, because it may not return to off.
What it means
Bafang's dealer manuals list 04 as a throttle fault. Bafang's own 04 troubleshooting sheet and some older displays describe 04 as the throttle not going back to its rest position. Either way the throttle is not working as it should.
Likely causes
- Damaged throttle cable or connector
- Throttle stuck or not springing back
- Faulty throttle
Symptoms
- Code 04 shows
- Throttle does not work
- Motor may try to pull when you are not using the throttle
How to fix it
- Switch the bike off straight away if the motor pulls on its own.
- Check that the throttle springs back freely.
- Check the throttle cable and connector for damage and make sure it is pushed fully home.
- Unplug and reconnect the throttle, then switch on again.
- If the code stays, the throttle needs replacing by your dealer.
How urgent is it?
A throttle that does not return to rest can make the bike move on its own.
