Usually safe to ride. Safe to ride if the brakes work normally; assist returns when the levers are released.
What it means
This is a status message, not a fault. The motor stops helping while a brake lever is pulled. If it stays on when you are not braking, a brake cable or brake sensor may be stuck.
Likely causes
- A brake lever is pulled
- Brake lever or cable stuck
- Brake cut-off sensor stuck on
Symptoms
- Code 03 shows
- No motor assist
How to fix it
- Let go of both brake levers.
- Check that each lever springs back fully and the cable is not stuck.
- Switch the bike off, wait 10 seconds and switch it on again.
- If the code comes back, take the bike to your dealer or a Bafang service centre.
How urgent is it?
Only act if the code stays on with the levers released.
