Generic / Chinese displays error E11: Communication fault (display sending)

What it means

The display and controller are not talking. The display's data is not reaching the controller. On generic displays the meaning of a code depends on the controller's communication protocol; this meaning is from the display maker's manual for this protocol.

Likely causes

• Loose or damaged display cable
• Bent connector pin
• Faulty display or controller

Symptoms

• E11 shows
• No assist

How to fix it

1. With the bike switched off, check the connectors between the display, controller and motor are clean, dry and pushed fully home.
2. Switch the bike off, wait 10 seconds and switch it on again.
3. If the code stays, take the bike to your dealer or an e-bike repair shop.
