Generic / Chinese displays error E09: Controller fault

What it means

The motor controller is reporting a fault. On generic displays the meaning of a code depends on the controller's communication protocol; this meaning is from the display maker's manual for this protocol.

Likely causes

• Loose connections
• Water in connectors
• Faulty controller

Symptoms

• E09 shows
• No assist

How to fix it

1. With the bike switched off, check the connectors between the display, controller and motor are clean, dry and pushed fully home.
2. Switch the bike off, wait 10 seconds and switch it on again.
3. If the code stays, take the bike to your dealer or an e-bike repair shop.
