Shimano STEPS / EP error W013: Torque sensor did not start correctly

What it means

When the system switches on, it zeroes the torque sensor. If there is pressure on a pedal at that moment, this fails and assist may be lower than normal.

Likely causes

• Foot resting on a pedal when switching on
• Pressing the pedals during start-up

Symptoms

• Weaker assist than usual
• W013 shown after switching on

How to fix it

1. Take your feet off the pedals.
2. Turn the power off with the battery power button, then on again without touching the pedals.
3. If it continues, contact your place of purchase.

How urgent is it?

Usually fixed straight away by restarting with feet off the pedals.
